Hi...I am looking at sm solutions wherein I can x'fer my DV captures directly into mpg. The current dv capture cards support capturing in .avi format I blv....I am not sure. If someone can help....
You need to transfer it in .AVI and then encode the material to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 using TMPGEnc or similiar.
tx for the info but that is cumbersome & time consuming task. Can you suggest any software or cheap hardware that will convert the DV to mpeg-1 in realtime or perhaps double the real time? Also, I see few camcorders which boast of capturing it directly in mpeg....how good is that? Pls help....regards, Mehul
i know dazzle makes some that cap in mpeg. do a search on the net...you will regret it after you spend the money on a cap card that does mpeg and find out you want avi later and have to get a new card, whereas if you took a few extra minutes and converted the avi to mpeg you will be more happier. your suggestion of double real time is impossible..get it?...REAL TIME?
Spend $600 and buy AMD 1GHz+ spare computer to do the encoding for you if you're afraid that you can't use your computer while it's encoding (no need for monitor, etc) -- wiser way to spend the money than buying an expensive and pretty useless encoding card. Always remember: faster the encoding process, crappier the result.
