Okay, every now and then when I put a disc in to burn (Lite-on 1633s and Ridata 8x dvd+r), it makes this noise. It's not recognized at all by the burner. I usually just restart the computer and everything is fine. Lately, if I stop burning for a couple of hours, the problem starts all over again. On the weekends, I usually have to play with it several times to get it to work. Yeah, I know, I should've nip it in the bud when it first started, but I work alot of hours through the week, so the weekends I play catch up on my burning. I really don't want to have to get another burner. Before I forget, yes, I have the latest firmware for this burner
I had this problem, the drive made weird noises and It could not even burn, but does the case of your drive gets hot when making these noises?? Mine did and so I opened and saw something loose and also replaced the internal motor and everything solved
I also had this happen. It didn't seem to matter what brand of dvds but I would put a dvd in the tray, close the tray, and then a strange noise. It sounded like it was tring to pick up the dvd but couldn't. I would open the tray wiggle the dvd a little and close it again, sometimes it would pick up sometimes not. It never did quality burns either so I finally gave up on my 1633.
