O.K. first of all I'm not exactly a tech guy so bear with me. My 4 year old HP burner quit burning so I replaced it. I purchased a "Gear Head" 20xDVD =/-R triple format internal drive. The drive is recognized in the Device Manager but I cannot burn anything. The software that came with the drive is Nero Essentials 7. The documentation included with the drive says that the drive will not play a DVD movie, nor will it burn anything until the Nero software is installed. I installed the software and attempted to burn a disk. Nero would not let me burn a disk because I did not have "all the required licenses". It appears to me that the whole Nero disk is a come-on for having to purchase more Nero stuff. I did not do a "typical" install but instead did a selective install and it still has 5 processes running, really!? I have a couple of free programs that used to work just fine, of course ImgBurn, and Burnaware. Neither will burn. They go through the motions, the busy green blinky light on the drive indicates it's working but the disk comes out blank. What is up with this? As I said the documentation that came with the drive said it "will not read or burn without installing the Nero software" is that typical? I mean my XP home edition recognized it, installed the drivers and now I cant burn, what is up with that? All I wanted to do was burn a DVD.
Alright apparently I've got it to burn. I have Cheetah DVD Burner 2.26 and I tried to burn it as a movie but it burned it as a data disc. I think one of the problems may have to do with the VOB files, they all display as Windows Media Player files, which is to say that the icon associated with the files is WMP, would that make a difference?
". . . it's working but the disk comes out blank." Blank or empty? Blank = nothing written to it and you can still burn to it. Empty = DVD is not detected or is detected but no files are visible. Put it back in a drive and does imageburn show the disc as "completed" or "empty"? Are you sure that you haven't got "simulation" or "trial mode" turned on?
