i have a old hp 300i (300n) dvd burner that will read orginal dvd's but it will not read the burn ones.(it use to read them fine)The starnge part is that it i can make a back up copy of a orginal dvd and burn it to a blank dvd+r disc. i have also checked hp site for firmware updates and the only one they have for my burner is 3.20n and i already have that one. How can i fix this probelm? or has my burner just died? thanks for all your help
I had a drive that had countless miles on it. I would burn discs that all my other DVD players would play, but it wouldn't play the discs that it had produced ... I ended up pulling the drive, removing the cover off and cleaning the laser lens (I used Everclear, but strong rubbing alcohol will work)... It worked fine after that. You know though. with the price of quality drives dropping under $45, you could just replace it with a much better drive.
Have you tried cleaning the lens? HP isn't that goos a drive anyway ... If cleaning the lens doesn't helo. scrap the HP and buy yourself a BenQ DW1640 .. It's a great drive for a great price http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=Go&DEPA=0&type=&description=BenQ+DW1640&Category=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=10&Go.y=29
