Hi I have a TSST Corp CD/DVDW H652L drive and before I installed the PT-Coufin driver for DVD Fab Platinum I was able to burn at speeds of 16X. I've even uninstalled that driver since but I'm still only burning at 1.2 X speed at max when I select 8X.

I've looked at the one of the troubleshooting faqs here about making sure you select DMA mode for your IDE controller and all of them are set to run in DMA where applicable and all my IDE ATA/Atapi controller but the one secondary controller says it's running in PIO mode. Now I don't think thats the one the burner's on , but if it is how would I go about resetting it.

Could I reinstall the driver or could it possible be the drive itself is just burning out.

Thanks Rotary. Yea that was the same tutorial I looked at ZoSoIV. But uninstalling the device completely was able to reboot it with DMA on. I was wondering though what causes a device setting to go into PIO by default when DMA is on if available?

Thanks to everyone that took the time to read my problem and for solving it. I've found quite a few interesting things out by reading topics here.

If your drive encounters 6 consecutive read errors(like caused by scratched, damaged discs), windows switches to PIO mode.
