dvd burner system requirements

    ive got an old gateway id like to stick a dvd burner in..

    Pentium 3 450mhz
    512mb ram

    is this enough ?

    and what brand would you suggest ?

    Hi,
    Plenty of burners at $49 bucks (Canadian), I recommend NEC, Sony or Pioneer - avoid LG.
    Great addition to your P3, no worries :^)
    Don't really need to put a Plextor in there, but nice new inexpensive burner will work okay.
    Keep in mind that your PC will not support 16x DVD throughput; will be hard-pressed to do 8x; should burn 4x (on 8x blanks) just fine.
    Even just reading discs or burning CDs, you will notice the good performance!
