I have recently upgraded my motherboard along with a new CPU, and now my LG DVD burner is recognised by the system, but will not run any programes or play any movies. It see's the files, but will not read correctly. Is this just a driver issue, or might I have damaged the burner when I upgraded?. I have removed all of the drivers manually and re-installed everything from scratch relating to the DVD burner, and still it will not work properly...!!! What can I do?!!
I assume that the burner has it's jumper set as the master on the secondary controller and any other optical drive on the (middle) of the cable is set as slave? And you are still using XP.
The cable connector is seated. BTW can you use XP to drag and drop to a CD? Drive properties > Recording >Enable recording or does nothing work..
Yeah, nothing works. It's like the drive is trying to read, but after a few seconds of opening a file, it will come up with an error in "example.exe" Then you've got the choice of sending or not sending error report to microsoft. Or if it's a DVD movie disc, I might get an image which will freeze, and the drive keeps spinning, but nothing else will load up.
It's either a case of testing/swapping the drive in another PC or a new drive. The operation of the burner is basic to XP and unless the installation of XP messed up (if you have a functioning CD rom in the machine then that would exclude that possibility) I have to assume that the burner is failing.
