I have a Plextor burner - all of a sudden none of the cheaper discs will burn. HP - Playor - Memorex etc - 90% error out. The TDK - Sony etc seem to work fine (some of the higher end one do error out but a samll percentage)- same deal with CDR's - any idea why this is happening all of a sudden?? All media used to work just fine. is the laser dirty? can it be cleaned? This is weird. Any thoughts
You would be much better off in the longer term using high end disks - Verbatim and TYs are strongly recommended. Problem with cheaper disks is that can be made by different manufactures and quality can be very variable. Very few experienced members would recommend Memosux, Playor or HP. I can buy Verbatim media for 50cent (Aust)- there is no reason to use cheap unreliable media. Sony and TDK are of intermediate quality but are normally not considered high end unless made in Japan. Problem with low quality media is that they also tend to degrade over time - save yourself hassles - use high quality media always.
I strongly agree with what colw said, use only top quality medias, like Verbatim and TY ones. You might check if your drive's firmware is well up-to-date,if not,go to the manufacturer's website and install the latest one, this might help. Vincent.
installed latest firmware - this problem just started a month ago. all media used to work now only a few - so something changed - is there a way to clean the laser etc thanks
now even high end media is hit or miss - could the laser be dirty? is there a way to clean it?? thanks
