I don't use my DVD burner that often to burn music or movies , but just recently I tried burning a disc and notice a strange sound after placing the disc in the tray and the program I use gives me a message that there's no disc and think maybe I need to update the firmware . The DVD burner is 6 years old like the PC so I wonder if it's going on me . I'm having a hard time finding the firmware even though I have the firmware size , ID string and what drive I have .
Mine starting going bad on mine and was having a hard time reading the discs.I think the lasers were getting weak.Mine is 6 years old also. I bought 2 new ones for $30 a piece. I only took about an hour to replace them and make sure they work.
This is nowhere near enough info. Need a model for the drive (look in device manager) and media speed, type etc
When I clicked on " DVD/ CD ROM DRIVES in device manager I see optiarc DVD+ RW ND - 3570A . .. I updated it and also saw a question mark and exclamation point both highlighted in yellow next to PCI simple communications controller that I also updated and everything looks OK but the DVD burner still won't burn CD'S . I down loaded and installed nero info tool that told me what firmware I need and I don't know where to find this .
Latest/only firmware is 1.12 available here or here. The firmware is from 2006, chances are it won't help if media is in fact your issue here. You could also try uninstalling the drive and associated IDE controllers then rebooting Windows. Before you do, can you burn DVDs/other discs at all?
I tried to install the update and receive an error . It looks like media is my issue and thanks for trying to help , I guess this sounds like I need a new burner .
