I have a Iomega IDVD16DD drive that I have had for a year now and am using NERO V6.3 I have never had an issue til recently. I have used in the past Memorex 16x dvd-r's for all my burning needs. And everything burned at 16x no problems. Recently everytime I enter a disc in the drive it only recognizes the write speed as 4x. If I continue with trying to burn this speed Nero will freeze up at the end and not finish the process. At first I thought maybe I got a defective batch of Dvd's but I have exchanged them many times even tried Sony Brand. Now Im not sure if the problem lies in my drive or in Nero. Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions?

i would try uninstalling and reinstalling nero(update to the lastest verison also)

are you keeping your system clean??( disc cleanup and defragging)and a good(spyware/virse scan program)

check and make sure your drives are in DMA mode and not PIO mode

i would use better media than memorex, Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim are the top choices Sony or Maxell is good also though.
