I am having a nightmare with my new dvd burner. When i first got it, I used DVD+R blanks to copy movies but they wouldn't play in my stand alone DVD players or my DVD-Rom on my laptop. So i bought some DVD-R and using DVD Xcopy Xpress trial was able to copy two home movies I had and play them in my DVD players and my DVD-ROM on my laptop. When my trial ran out, i tried using DVD shrink and Record Now Max to copy my two other movies I had using DVD-R disks. The two movies i copied using DVD Shrink and Record Now Max would play in the DVD ROM on my laptop but wouldn't play in my two stand alone DVD players. Why is it when the other DVD-R that i used played in my stand alone when I copied them using DVD XCopy Xpress? This is frustrating. Thanks for everyone's help.

Sorry about the lack of info. I am using an external Sony DRX-510UL, running on an IBM X30 laptop with a 60 GB hardrive, 1 GB of RAM and running Windows XP. Hope this helps and if you need any more info, let me know. Thanks
Hi ccohen I see the Sony is a dual format burner so it able to burn in either format. This is a link to Sony's site for their recommend media for that drive http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/mediainfo_na.htm I suspect your stand alone DVD players do not like + R media. As for your last burn using DVD Shrink and Record Now Max that a setting needs to be changed to correct the process. Could you expand on how you setup the last burn Thanks
I am not sure exactly what you mean by asking how I set up my last burn. Here is what i did. I opened DVD Shrink and clicked on full disk. I then removed some of the subtitles and foreign languages to compress the movie since it was about 7 GB. I then had to click on the reauthor to further compress the movie. I dragged the main movie part to the new DVD folder. I then removed some of the other languages and subtitles. I then compressed the video at level 4 so it would fit all on one disk. I then clicked on backup. When that was done I opened Record Now Max. I clicked on the Data option, then clicked add files and folders and then added the Video_TS file that had my compressed movie in it. It then burned it. When I took the DVD-R and put it in my stand alone DVD it wouldn't recognize it. My DVD-ROM on my laptop did and would play the copy. When I used DVD Xcopy Xpress and burned DVD-R, the copy worked in both my stand alone and my DVD-ROM on my laptop. Sorry if this is not what you wanted. I am new at all this and very frustrated.
Hi Your usage of DVD Shrink seems correct. How Record Max made the DVD may be creating your problem. A stand alone DVD player is looking for a certain format on a disc so it knows how to play the disc either DVD Video or SVCD or VCD or MP3 or CD Audio. When you setup Record Max it was set to record a "Data" disc not a DVD Video disc. You DVD player in the computer can play "data" discs. Your stand alone cannot. I use Nero 6 to burn my DVD video and have limited knowlege on how to setup Record Now Max to burn DVD Video. DVD Xcopy Xpress has these setting built into its setup - that is why it worked on your other burns. Check the help files in RecordNow for directions on how to record DVD Video. I hope this helps
ccohen did you put the files in a folder Video_TS or VIDEO_TS? the "VIDEO_TS" folder does need to be all caps or else the standalone will NOT recognize a proper burn. Computers are ignorant of this fact and will play anything. This is common among newbies and their standalones.
i think i put it in Video_TS. I am not sure but next time I will make sure it is all caps. Also, when using RecordNow Max, does anyone know whether i use the data option or video cd option when making a DVD? One of the guides i read on a thread on this forum said use the data option. I did that and one member suggested that is why it would not work in my stand alone dvd player but would work on my DVD-Rom on my laptop. The poster said that DVD-Roms would read data disks. thanks.
RecordNow Max needs a VIDEO_TS folder inorder to have a successful burn. Make sure your VIDEO_TS folder is not a subfolder of the VIDEO_TS folder that you created. cheezzzz
Not read anything but check out http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/recordnowmax.htm This will give you a good step by step on Recnow, follow it and it should work......you do have to use data and NOT video cd.... You also need to check the' recognise audio/videots folders' in tools/options/data disc.........otherwise a dvd video format will not be produced..... The guide will lead the way......good luck....
I'm not sure what type of stand-alone dvd player you have, or what type of media you were using, besides the fact that they were +r. Although the problem may lie in the way in which you burn your dvd, check www.dvdrhelp.com for a list of media types compatible with your stand-alone.
I am very new at this and I was having the same problem with record now. I was using it since it came with the burner. Dvd shrink worked ok, but after burning it with record now it would only play on the dvd burner. I followed the guide for record now on another site. I downloaded a trial of Dvd copy express and that worked, but I didn't like the quality. Then I tried Nero with Dvd shrink and it turned out perfectly.
