I think you will find the majority of the members on AD including myself use NERO - Hands down favourite burning software.

    IMO Nero is very good.
To save money you can get a Nero6 OEM version for just a few dollars.
OEM version works fine and you get all the updates.
NERO is going to come out with NERO 7 in October.
They say that NERO 6 will get updates for a few months after 7 is released.

i think you guys missed his point lol

boriken the best software out there thats really easy to use is CloneDVD 2 with anydvd running in the background the re-authoring capabilities and being able to control the burn speed is what you need ,both are a free trial for 21 days before you buy and if you decide to buy type in "afterdawn" and save 10 bucks on the combo making it 49 bucks ,heres the link download it you wont be disapointed

and heres a guide to get you started to use the programs

and remember to use good blank media as in Taiyo Yuden or Verbatium and burn at 4X max. you will have perfect backups everytime

You're right, I did miss it. LOL
I prefer to use DVD Shrink and NERO.
For the newer Columbia and Sony Pictures movies, I use DVD Decrypter.
Then Shrink to compress and NERO to burn.
Many people love ANYDVD and report great success.
I just prefer to only run one program at a time and keep the CPU usage down

The only answers you will get are peoples opinions.
That's a big can of worms to open.
The best thing to do is to, read the guides for different programs.
    Check out their ratings.
Pick one that you feel comfortable with.

The best thing to do is search the threads - there are several on what 'the best' software to use is to give you some insight. Some require you to buy and time some don't, then there's the time factor, video quality etc.

Thanks to all that replied, being a newby is so stressful I almost can't stand it. But, again thanks to you it makes my choice a little easier. I have been using shrink to rip then nero 5.5 to burn and it worked out ok, then I upgraded to nero 6 "with all the updates". Now nero 6 gets to 74% during the analyzation and stays there for ever, which is why I want to go to a less stressful back up software. anyone have any ideas why nero 6 gets stuck?
Thanks again to the Afterdawn and the Afterdawn community,

    Boriken

I'm a Nero lover - have been using it for years. Few problems if any on my end. It could be a media issue but the best thing to do is to start a thread in the Nero forum. You should post your last failed log from Nero. It can be found at c:program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.log.
Please be sure you edit out your serial #'s - they begin w/ 1Axxxxxxxxx (like 24 characters long). Their are alot of knowledgable members that can help sort this out for you!

Is there a program that lets you burn more than one at a time. I meen if you got three DVD burners can you do all three at one time . I like to know what program will do that.

I have had great sucess with DVD Decrypter first to hard disk, then compressed and BURNED with Shrink. 2 Passes.
I use a Plextor 716 DL burner and sometimes use Nero but have found it to be flacky on movies but Shrink has worked about 98% of the time and both are FREE
