Hi eveyone, I recently purchased Nero 7 ultra edition. I would like to back up my DVD dual layer movies to dual layer discs with the exact video and sound format. Do I need some other software to run in conjunction with Nero to accomplish this? The movies are copywrited of course. Thanks in advance.
Usually the best bet is to use AnyDVD (not free) in conjunction with DVD Decrypter (free). This should produce an exact backup including the layer break. Use the ISO Read mode of DVD D to rip the ISO image to your HDD and then use the ISO Write mode and select the companion MDS file to burn to a double layer disk. This maintains the exact same layer break, etc. of the original. http://www.slysoft.com http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/ I'm not a big proponent of using Nero for burning DL disks. Some have no problems but Nero has always been problematic in burning DL disks for me. You can use free software like DVDFad Decrypter to rip your disks to your HDD and then use ImgBurn (also free) to burn it to your DL disk. You'll have to choose the layer break yourself if you rip into a folder of DVD files. http://www.dvdfab.com/mlink/download.php?g=HDDECRYPTER http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/ImgBurn/1128426215/1 I'd recommend using Verbatim +R DL media. It's the best and causes the fewest problems for most burners. Also make sure your burner firmware is up to date.
Thanks for the advice. AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter seem to do the same thing. Why do I need both? And is it possible to skip copying to the hard drive and copy straight to a dvd dual layer disc?
Although AnyDVD does indeed have a ripper function, its primary purpose is to overcome region and CSS copy protection protection while running in the background. Since DVD D no longer is updated it really can't cope with some of the newer copy protection in its default mode. It can rip about anything using a PSL file though. If you're using Ripit4me to generate the PSL file, it's relatively painless. However the AnyDVD Ripper, DVDFab Decrypter, and DVD D with PSL all rip files into a DVD folder and you lose the original layer break and have to make one before burning. Ripping with DVD D in ISO Read mode maintains the same break since you have the identical disk image of the original. Ripping with DVD D in ISO mode can be problematic if a brand new protection has been employed that AnyDVD hasn't yet addressed. In that case you'll have to wait before backing up your copy or use one of the other methods. Ripping to your HDD is usually the best way to proceed imo. Using Nero's disk copy can work OK but one generally runs into fewer problems over the long run by ripping to the HDD first. Nero is going to make a file (albeit a temporary one) on your HDD anyway of the disk's contents.
I was doing some googling and came across DVD cloner 4. This seems like a real easy way to go and it can be had for less then AnyDVD. Have you heard of this program?
AnyDVD is a one-time purchase. It's updated constantly and all updates are free. There isn't anything that free programs can't do. Google for ripit4me. It uses all free programs to backup any DVD in either wizard or 1-click mode. I've already mention DVDFab HD Decrypter along with DVD Shrink (you already have Nero Recode), and ImgBurn (all free) that can backup nearly everything. The only reason AnyDVD entered the conversation was to indicate the easiest way to get an identical backup of the original DL DVD. It makes otherwise obsolete backup software relevant again. Plus it makes everything easier to use and protects against Sony malware. Edit: forgot about responding to DVD Cloner I haven't ever used it or know anyone else who has so I can't make a definitive comment. I would lean toward the negative as these types of programs are usually designed to sucker people in. Does it have lifetime free updates? Look at Clone DVD from Slysoft if you want another 1-click solution. It has to be used in conjunction with AnyDVD. I'd suggest experimenting with the various options before making a decision.
I just ran across some negative reports about DVD Cloner 4 in the other forum. I think the AnyDVD and Clone DVD combo might be best. I just want to put in a DVD movie in one tray and put a blank dual layer disc in the other and press burn. AnyDVD (slysoft) seems to have the best rep on these forums. Thanks again.
Laddyboy, I downloaded the AnyDVD software, used a verbatim dual layer disc and I burned successfully with Nero express. Only thing is that the 5.1 surround sound is slightly lower then usual. My burned copy is still very audible, but I can tell a difference. Is there anything I should be doing when settinp up the burn in Nero in relation to the sound? Thanks,
Unless you're reauthoring with Nero Vision Express, I do not remember any way to boost the sound in Nero. If you're just using the disk copy function of Nero Express, the sound should be the same as the original I would think. Is the sound noticeably lower than on the original disk? Nero is full of problems. This may just be another to add to the list if you're getting reduced sound on the copy. Have you tried a different player to ensure it's just not the player?
It's not that big of a deal because I can just raise the volume. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing an option somewhere. And to be honest I never compared it to the original. I've seen it mentioned here before that Nero version 6 is much better. Is there anyway to roll back Nero 7 to 6? And how much better is slysoft's DVDclone2 to Nero 7's burning apps? I'm thinking of just getting both of slysoft's apps to make the burning proccess that much more seamless. And thanks again. Your advise was damn good. Great community.
CloneDVD2 is very good. One of its best features is the ability to selectively retain "extras" titles along with the menu and main title. I do not think it does the best job at compressing titles to fit a DVD5, but that's a somewhat debatable point. It also has lifetime updates. Nero Recode and DVD Shrink have a similar purpose to Clone and both were written by the same person. Nero Recode is updated, Shrink is not However, imo Shrink does a better job of compressing than Recode when using advanced tools and algorithms to maintain sharpness, smoothness, etc. Again, much of this is subjective.
