I want to be able to take excerpts from a commercial DVD and use these snippets in a PowerPoint presentation for school. What kind of software will allow me extract and save the excerpts in the proper format to do this. The format for PowerPoint would have to be .avi or some other compatible format.

This is my first adventure in video. If I am in the wrong place please tell me the correct forum.

Actually I want to do just the opposite; take video and convert parts of it to .avi (or other) and put them into pp.

The only way i can think of doin this is buy playing the movie file and then pausing it and then just pressing print screen while u have the movie running on full screen and then going to pp and then pasting it and then resizing it that way.

I know it's long but thats what i would do i dont know anyother way...

    Sorry... Good Luck...

Your proposed method would create a still, not a video clip. Besides, that doesn't work anyway because what actually gets pasted into the pp slide is a link to the video that is playing. In other words, what you have is a link to the player that is actually playing the video, so, you are watching the movie in the pp slide only as long as the player (windows media player for example) is running the video. As soon as you try to save the pp slide or turn off the video player the image goes away and all that remains is a black square on the slide where the image used to be.

Im not looking for ideas on how to attach a video clip to a pp slide. I know how to do that. You convert the video to an .avi file and then attach it. I asked what software will allow me to convert portions (clips) of a video into .avi (or other compatible formats) so I can insert them into the pp slide. Not, how to do it.
