there are several sites selling software that apparently copies dvds and ps2 games without a dvd burner and without the need for a modchip. Is this true? whats the catch? regards footnut
The 'catch' is that you either need to copy to CD or several CDs depending on the compression used, or you need to store the resulant files on your hard drive. The CDs will play on any DVD player that supports the Video CD format. Quality isn't as good as DVD, but it's not bad.
footnut, If you are talking about something that plays DVD's many do without any problem. There is a new format that can be written on CD's called Mini-DVD and that will play on 90% of all standalone players and 100% of all windows PC's. With a DVBD-ROM and a CD Burner you can do most of this for only the cost of a Nero 6.0 program (approx. 10.00 US). The 1st program, to rip the DVD, strip off the extras you don't want, you do that by just putting an "X" in a box, and compressing the movie so that a normal DVD will fit on 2 CD's with pretty good quality (about that of a commercial VHS tape) is Shareware - or in other words, FREE !! The program is DVDShrink and the guides are super - If you want to go that way, let me know - Hope I've been of some help, "P"
