Hi running Studio 9 on Windows XP.
Have just had the PC reformatted - 2GB of RAM put in and everything freshly installed. Desperately want to create a DVD of a friends wedding - they fly out from NZ in 2 weeks!
I have created disc content and then burned to DVD from the previoulsy created content.
Movie is 40 mins long - no fancy stuff - a couple of transitions only. No menus - it's a straightforward play. DVD has AUDIO-TS and VIDEO_TS directories on it ok - and I can play the movie by double clicking on vts_01_1.VOB file.
Write speed was 2x for original disc content. 7500Kb/sec
It all burns smoothly - until it comes to play the movie!

I have created DVDs previously (prior to reformat) and been able to play the particular DVD on our player - Imation DVD-R.

    Any ideas!!??

    Jo - Auckland, New Zealand
Where we are having the most wonderful steamy hot sunny summer... except for today - torrential rain!

Are the .IFO and .BUP files present in the VIDEO_TS folder.

As a test of DVD standard, I simply open the file folder that was output by the authoring program using DVD Shrink.
If it loads the files without complaint, then it's standard DVD format files and should play ok - it should also open the disk ok - unless there's a problem with the disk itself.

Thanks for your quick response After Dawn Addict! You've hit the nail on the head...

DVD Shrink download and as you've probably already guessed...
DVD Srink encoutnered an error and cannot continue. Inalid DVD navigation structure

So I dug out a different movie/DVD I'd previously created and looked at the files/structure.
    In VIDEO_TS it has
    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VIDEO_TS.VOB
Which are think are the one's with the info as to use of the core movie files...

    Then there's
    VTS_01_1.BUP
    VTS_01_1.VOB
WHich I think are the menu's (my DVD doens't have any so wouldn';t expect to see these)

then there are all the core movie files
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB

So looks like Studio is missing writing the VIDEO_TS.BUP,IFO and VOB files.

When I watch it finish it's burning to dvd it looks to be like the dvd might be ejected a little soon - it displays the last few seconds of "writing a lin in"or something like that - and by the time the gren "buring complete"comes up the DVD has been out for a few seconds already?

Could I try changing the movie in some way (maybe create a menu) and try again?

    Regards
    Jo
PS What country are you writing from?

I can't offer a reason why your authoring program is having problems and I'm not clear if it's happening at the authoring stage (it isn't outputting all the required files to a folder on the hard drive?) or the files are lost at the burning step.

That to one side, you can create a new set of IFO/BUP files using Ifoedit.

Copy the .VOB files to a new folder (VIDEO_TS).
    They should be in sequence.
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    etc.

    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/IfoEdit

Run Ifoedit and click 'Create IFOs'
    The 'Create new IFO files' window opens;
Under 'Options' select only 'Create a PGC for each new VobID' and 'Create Chapter for each Cell'.
'Output Stream'; select the 1st VOB of Title-Set (VTS_01_1.VOB) from your new folder
Make the destination directory 'Same as Source'.
    'OK'.

Ifoedit processes each VOB in sequence.
    When it's finished 'Quit'

Test the folder with DVD Shrink.
    burn with 'Imgburn' or similar.
If it errors, there is a further step that can use to correct it.

    Canada.

    WOW - that was quick...

Had another thought... to check the VIDEO_TS folder on my hard drive as had selected to "create disc content but don't burn"- then create DVD copies from that...
The directory only has the VTS_01-1.VOB file that I also see on the physical DVD... I compared this to another project I had saved and voila - thre are all the other files that are missing on my problem project... so the problem must be at this step.

Will try your suggestion and also recreating dis content to my hard drive...

SO appreciate your thoughts and input!!

Have now discovered that the vts_01_1.VOB file that was saved to my hard drive and then burnt to DVD was incomplete! ONly about 2 mins long...
So thought first step I would recreate the DVD on the hard dirve (render & compile)... and then (again) use the "create DVD form previously created content" to burn to DVD.
It looks to me like everything is OK on the hard drive. Not sure exactly what directories and files need to be there - but focussing on the VIDEO_TS directory there is:
    DEFAULT.PLS (WHAT IS THIS!?)
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
When I look at the last file -0 yes it shows footage to the end of the movie.
When I burn to DVD (4.7GB -RW format) there are no files displaying - but when I right click and look at properties - the entire DVD is colour blue as 100% used - and it shows 0 bytes for used and free??
HELP! I feel like I'm going around in circles!!!
Could I download and use another software package to burn theDVD?? would I just burn the contents of VIDEO_TS directory??

    Hiya -
After several attempts (stalling during compile phase) I got a sucessful burn to the Hard Drive... and after even more attempts to burn to DVD (many turn off and restarts!) I got a clean burn to DVD - since then every burn from the Hard Drive copy has been perfect!
I don't understand what went wrong - I'm just really grateful for your support/help... and that the movie is done. Ít's been (as it always is) all consuming!
Many thanks for all your help...
    Jo

next time you get those navigation errors in dvdshrink, use the "fixvts" free software to process all the vob's. The only time I have seen navigation errors fixvts has been able to fix the problem, and dvd was made playable.

The program I use that gives me navigation errors is winavi 7.7, it seems your studio 9 also does the same thing. But it's a easy fix.
