DVD Decrypter worked fine but burned DVD won't run

I just got a liteon 4x duel drive. As I was trying to back up a dvd movie, I used DVD Decrypter and followed the steps rigorously using ISO mode. I also had previously checked my ASPI file with ASPCHK and it said it was in working order although it is a version that is 4 years old.

The whole process of reading and writing worked fine. But when I was finished, the burned DVD would not run.

Prior to the read process, I selected certain segments not to read as was done in the guide example. I used ISO mode.

After the read process, when I went to select the source image from the hard drive (nothing appeared so I went and browsed the C drive to find it), I saw a TS folder which contained three files - 1 mds file and a IDE 100 and 101. I highlighted the mds file and burned the DVD. I used ISO but never saw a DVD file. Another thing of note, my DVD-R disc was only 2x compatible but my burner was 4x, I set the speed at 2x.

Can you help me determine what I did wrong? I spent a lot of money on the burner, but so far I haven't been able to burn DVDs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check out my DVD Decrypter guide for more info and a better tutorial.

If you have 2x media, make sure that you write to DVD only at 1x because writing at 2x with 2x media might give you problems if the DVD disca are not quality ones. Writing at the slowest speed is always better as it gives a better quality burn :D

Thanks for the reply. I did use your detailed instructions and followed them. Do you think the problem is that my ASPI layer for Windows 98 may be outdated?

When I set the run rate at 2X I got a note in the info log that the drive was rated at 4x.

    Hi Gents,

I have a similar problem. I had followed the guide, and used DVD Decrpter to rip the DVD files onto my HD. Because they were larger than 4.7 GB, I used DVD Shrink to compress the video files so that it could fit onto a DVD-R. It seems to have been successful. So I burned the DVD+R.

However, my DVD player gives me a "cannot read" error if I try to play it. Playing it off a computer works alright, though it seems that doesn't necessarily say much.

I am using Memorex DVD+Rs, and tried it on a Memorex DVD+RW as well. I have a Memorex 4x/2.4x/12x dual format DVD recorder.

Is there any course of action that someone could suggest please?

    Thanks much

I'm just wondering if this is a new phenomenon for you not being able to play these burnt DVDs in your console player? In other words, are these your first attempts to play DVD+/-R media in your console? DVD-R has a greater compatability rating than +R which might be the source of your inability to play it on your console. If so your choices are to get a newer DVD player or a new DVD-R/RW burner to solve your problem. I might go with the new player. Even w/ a higher level of compatability I burnt DVD-Rs last year of a DVD screener for the 2 towers. They all played fine on PCs yet on one DVD console, a year old, it wouldn't be recognized and on another recently bought it played without a hitch. Oh yeah, and new players are incorporating specifically DVD+/-R/RW compatability into them. Hope this helps.

Just noticed the part about your duel mode DVD burner... If you have one try the same movie on DVD-R media and see if it makes a difference before going out for a new player.

The problem jlc0307 and ras_issac could be many things, but the most common problem is related to your ASPI drivers. Most peoples ASPI layer is out-of-date or nonexistent.

So first, check your ASPI drivers. Updating these drivers solves most of the problems here, but NOT ALL!

    Good luck :D

    koola,
Sounds good but ras_issac's prob sounds different. His DVD+R plays fine on computer and not on console. If the ASPI were screwy wouldn't it be unable to play on the computer? Just for kicks ras_issac, try the DVD-R and see what happens on the console and try it on a few players (friends) if it doesn't work on yours. Hope it works!

Well triadone, it must have worked as we have not heard anything back from them!

You are correct as well because DVD media is one of the main problems with incorrect backups, but updating the ASPI is much easier than buying new media lol.
