Could someone please explain to me why alot of people use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink? Maybe I'm wrong but doesn't DVD Shrink do the same thing as DVD Decrypter, as well as, compression of the DVD? I guess I just don't understand the purpose of using DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD then using DVD Shrink to compress the DVD, when DVD Shrink will do both.

You are right, but most times people use DVD Decrypter first as it rips DVDs that DVD Shrink has failed to do so. If there is no problem, then yes, use only DVD Shrink.

Are there any positives by doing it this way. Or is this method only used when DVD Shrink will not rip the DVD?

No positives. Just use it when you have a problem!

Well both these programs compliment each other very well. I've found that dvd decrypter rips a lot faster than dvd shrink and has a lot of other advanced features as well.

Ok Scuba i sense your cinism. Perhaps i miss used the term "advanced" What I mean is that i've been able to do a lot more things with decrypter than with dvd shrink I find it easier to program and to tweak the settings. I like to have the two for the simple fact that when one fails the other one shines.

Can someone help me with DVD Shrink problem.
I started using DVD Shrink two days back. My first DVD burning output was perfect (except one or two places in menu, where it hangup).
But In my second attampt with another DVD (spolied Three DVD), the output handup in Root Menu. I ran the output DVD, it reachs till Root Menu successfully, but afterward, select anything, it hangup.
I was using "Full Desk Backup" and even tried with "Deep Analysis" option. Same results.
    Am I missing any step?

What kind of media are you using? This may be the problem.

    shivciti,

There are times when computers corrupt files for you when you didn't ask them too. Let's try uninstalling DVDShrink AND Nero, reboot your system and reinstalling them - reboot again so that they "take" then follow this guide and these "Hints" and let's see what happens :)

    Guide -
    HINT:
When using DVDShrink ver. 3.1.4 nbeta0

Before I start, I create a folder with my movie’s name somewhere on my HD where I can find it later (i.e. C:/All DVD Work/Pirates of the Caribbean).

When using DVDShrink, after inserting your DVD, open Shrink, click “Open Disk”. Then, “Select DVD Drive” and click “OK”. After Shrink has opened your disc, anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 ½ minutes you’ll see the size of the disc at the bar at the top of the page. If you have a Green bar with a little Gray at the top of the page, go to the next paragraph:) If you see some “Red”, simply check off those files you don’t want, I.E. Outer Mongolian or Eastern Yak Basin language, or extra audio files – I keep ACS 2ch or ACS 5.1, that will give you stereo, most of the rest you can trash. Only do that if you need to lose some stuff to make it fit. You can also gain more room by clicking “Custom Ratio” and increasing the compression.

Personally, I compress until I see about 1/8 of an inch of Gray at the end of my Green bar - that way I’m not writing to the very edge of my DVD disc. - Remember, more compression, a tiny bit less on the picture quality – when I say “less quality” I’m speaking of theoretically less, nothing you can really see with the naked eye for the most part. Let’s make sure that the box which says “Full Disk” is depressed (No need to cheer it up, it likes being depressed :). When you are ready to go, - -> click “Backup”. When the Backup box opens, under “Target Device” make sure your DVD Burner is listed in the window. Under “Target folder”, make sure the folder you made at the beginning with the movie’s name is there (that way you can always go back and burn another copy in the future). Now click “OK”.
Last step: STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER ! Do not fold, spindle, mutilate, molest nor fondle the keyboard. GO AWAY ! Ms. Computer will let you know when she is finished, to approach her before then may be a hazard to your health -

Really, let it alone, go call your Mom, she misses you and would love to hear from you - your backup will be ready shortly, honest :)

    Enjoy your backup,
    “P”

    ScubaPete

Thanks for the valuable tips “ScubaPete”, especially when I’m going to burn the same “Pirates of the Caribbean”. I have added them in my future to do link before DVD backup.

Moreover I was testing the backup on Power DVD. Yesterday I tested the backup DVD on two different brand regular DVD Players and gets perfect output. While reading the other threads of the forum, come to know that Power DVD behaves miserable sometime with backup disks.

Any suggestion about DVD Media brands? Do we have to use famous brands like SONY, MEMOREX, TDK etc or MAXELL, FUJIFILMS, VERBATIM are equally good?
Any difference between +R or –R, when my drive supports both?

    shivciti,

Your discs sound fine. I use Ritek and Verbatim +R's and Sony and Memorex +RW's and have used Fujifilm and TDK with excellent results.

The + media are supposed to be manufactured to a higher standard but as long as you're using good quality I see no difference between the minus and the plus.

    Good Luck,
