Hey guys, I bought a DVD and it doesnt play. When I put it into my toshiba DVD player it says "Cannot play due to regional restrictions." I made a copy of it using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. But the copy doesnt work either. What can I do. Is there another way I can get it to play a backup.
@klcvi Do you get the same error on the back up as you do w/ the original when trying to play it? If so it sounds like it's a PAL and your in NTSC region or vice versa. So if you have Nero you can use Nero Vision - takes a bit. Or you can try this method: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/302954#1788923
When I play my burnt version it says "not NTSC" and when I play my original it says cant play due to regional restrictions. So what can I do. Can I do it a special way with Decrypter and Shrink or do I need another program. Im new to this by the way
You'll need to convert it to NTSC. Shrink and Decrypter will remove the region code only. If you have Nero (full version) you can do this w/ Nero Vision. Pick 'Make DVD' then 'DVD-Video'. You add the files in the next screen. You receive a pop saying something like 'most files are in a PAL format do you wish to keep this format' click no and Nero will convert to NTSC. A faster way that will usually work on most DVD players is the vobblanker method. See the link in my post above on how to do that. You can always post back with any questions!
Here's a pick of Nero 6 application (Nero 7 is very similar). Nero vision is 3rd down. If you don't have that try vobblanker: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/302954#1788923
ok Ive decided to go with the vobblanker. So I used Decrypter to rip an image of the orginal DVD onto my computer. Open it in blanker and it says all the files are PALS. so I right click on all them and Video ATT, then change them all to NTsc. then blanker will create another image as NTsc then I can burn and play it??
That's sounds right! If the file size is over 4.38 gig then you'll need to run it thru shrink. If not than just burn w/ Nero.
ok, so i did all that last night and ran it through shrink and burnt it. But the whole movie is really choppy. Can I fix this?
The choppy can be from a few things. The original DVD - is the video quality good? (try playing it in your pc) What brand of discs did you use and what was the burn speed? Did you change any other video attribute in vobblanker?
The original is fine and I used maxell DVDs. I didnt change anything else on blanker. WHen I change it to NTSC what ratio should I use that is the best??
When I use vobblanker I just change from PAL to NTSC - nothing else. I haven't had a problem with playback on the ones I did this way on a few players but maybe you are. Maxell's are decent discs and I'm guessing you haven't had problems w/ choppy video b/4 w/ them. So you can try this method (another 'masking' method) w/ ifo edit: http://thedvshow.com/faq-pro/index.php?action=article&cat_id=004&id=96 Or go the Nero route - depending on your pc specs & file size can take about 3 hrs to do the conversion. Since you didn't see Nero Vision listed - did Nero come w/ your drive by chance?
