Hi I have purchased a second hand computer that worked perfectly well, I was able to Read DVD with no problem, Now suddenly it won't read DVD but there is no problem with CD, I read an article that suggested it was a Hard-Ware problem with this type of Drive in particular, if that is the case what can I do about it, Is HP obligated to fix this problem as they have sold a defective Drive?
If you purchased this within the last year from hp website or a store and have registered it on thier site to activate the warranty they will replace it. You will likely have to got to online chat or call to get assistance. If you purchased it from a someone like on Craigslist you will have to replace it these days fast dvdrw drives sell for under $35 and often come with free shipping it may be cheaper in the long run and you can get a better model than hp will use. If you live in the U.S. check out newegg.com or tigerdirect.com its very easy to replace just make sure you get the one that fits your motherboard by that I mean is the interface sata or ide.
