I have made many backups successfully with this drive over the last 2 years but now some of my backups won't be correctly read by the drive. It reads most of my backups as some .cda file . is this common? does it sound like a windows problem or is my drive finally crapping out?

.cda files are music files that you see on a music CD. If you disk is a music disk, that would be normal, but if it contains data files, then it isn't.
