I have a hp dvd740 drive, when i burn cd's it does it in a reasonable speed but when i try to rip a cd to mp3 it takes a very long time. I haven't had this problem with any other systems that i've built. just wondering if anyone has any idea why it's slow. also i have it hooked up to my motherboard as a master drive because i'm using a SATA hard drive. Thanks

I would think that it has more to do with the program your using. What are you using to rip the music? Is this a new set-up or have you done it before & it is slower now? Exactly how long does it take?

I've tried ripping mp3s using rhapsody, wmp, and cdex. My computer is fairly knew, since the first time i tried ripping a cd it was slow so i tried different programs. I tried running cdex using the lame codec at a constant bitrate of 160kbps and a cd take about a half hour. My last couple computer would do this in less than 5 min.
