dvd drive wont read anything

I'm having trouble with my dvd rw drive. It won't read any dvd's, cd's, or blank discs that i've put in. It won't even register that there is a disc inside. Yet the hardware manager has no problems picking it up.

Make: Phillips (sub cont. Benq Corp)
Model: DVD8631/95 ; 930504666395 (E-H900-04-1956)

Not sure of the model exactly but its a dell dimension 8400 and i was running it on win xp.

Any help that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

 

I know that this thread has been posted before, but the last one ended when the other guy had his stuff replaced by warranty.

 

Everything that you wanted to know about the drive is pinned at the top of this forum. And it isn't good.
