I've been having a problem with my dvd playback. I am not using copied dvds. The dvds are in great condition, some of them are still fairly new, unblemished. My dvd media player of choice is PowerDVD 6. My problem is that I can view a dvd just fine up until about one hour, give or take, into the movie. The playback is smooth until that point. When playback reaches that point it just freezes and it won't play any farther. I've tried rebooting my computer and restarting the dvd from that point but it will not play at all from that point onward. I have tried using other media players at that point and they all respond similarly. I've tried using the current version of WinDVD, WMP 10, VLC Media Player, and Nero ShowTime 3. This is really frustrating. I have tried searching Google for similar problems as well as this extensive forum and I cannot find a solution to my problem.

It's more than likely your MPEG2 codec. Try installing the K-Lite codec pack and see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the full K-Lite codec pack and it didn't work out. After that I purchased RadarSync 2007 to detect any drivers that I need to update. I updated all of my drivers and still my same problem continues.

Solution: I purchased a new drive. The I/O Magic IDVD16DLS: rebadged BenQ 1655. I can now watch dvds.
