I have been reading about how labeling your DVDs is a very bad idea. This isn't good for me since I label all of my DVD backups. My question is, is it the labels that are junky? I use Neato labels with the label machine so they line up just right. I have had to remove some labels that didn't go on right but if they are straight they seem to work just fine. I have played all my discs and they all play ok. Am I gonna be getting a nice suprise in the future or are there users out there that have consistantly had good luck for a while? I just want to make sure that is there is some pitfall that I can avoid while still labeling my discs (i.e. brand, technique ect.) I want to make sure I do it. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi nflp, General rule is don't use labels. It seems to be player and media related. Some players can handle the labels some can't. It also seems that cheaper media has more problems when labeled than the better quality media. There isn't any good way of knowing if you will have problems down the road. I'm sure you have researched this on the forum. It just isn't a good way to go. My Sony player has no problem with labels. My Toshiba can't play them and my JVC player plays labels when it feels like it. As long as you are aware of the possible problems and your players can handle it I guess you are ok for now. Long term problems will have to wait and see. Good luck.

A simple solution for labeling DVD's is to buy an epson R300 Printer for around $100.00.Then u can use printable DVD's,& Print directly to the DVD.The money u save by doing this is well worth the investment,in the printer. For around $40.00 u can Print about 150 DVD's in full color just like the original,or about 300 DVD's in just black & white. With the proper adjustment in the ink useage window of the printer.U can specify color os just black ink w/just one check mark.A lot less hassle & work!!As the old saying goes time is money.U can copy & paste all your text from your local Video stores.Ad rateings, running time,Movie titles, who's in the movie Etc..U can make some really impressive Labels

Ok. Thanks for the feedback. I only use the Maxell media from Best Buy. I've never had any problems so I pay the extra for them. I also only use Neato labels. Same reason. I'll keep a close eye on my backups. I hate not to label (I don't really want to buy another printer so the printing on the discs is out) but I hate to loose my disc either.
