Title says it all. After problem started I did a system restore and uninstalled Nero and Real player thinking there was a conflict. DVDs play fine on other computers. CDs play fine in WMP. I'm about ready to do a reformat if nothing else comes to mind. It is an old HP.small cpu, old cards etc. but had been working fine until recently.
A lot of playback problems are usually attributed to a few key things. 1. Crappy media. Using good quality blank media is a must for good quality backups. 2. Too high a burn speed can cause playback problems. (remember to refrain from multitasking) 3. Blank media format. -R's are typically widely accepted in standalone players. If using the +R format booktyping to DVD-ROM is the best way to go. 4. Keeping the firmware for your burner up to date is also a good idea. Hope this helps a bit.
But none of the parameters you mention changed at the point that symptoms first occurred... but thanks for the heads up.
and dvds made and played well on other machines have audio and video braeakup but prerecorded dvds work well as do prerecorded and copied cds.
Playo 1-16x -R been using them for years. They record and play well on other machines but suddenly my HP with a BenQ started acting up. I can copy and playback using DVD Shrink without problems.
Check the task manager and see what the cpu utilization is when the dvd's are playing back. In wmp, select file/properties. What codecs are in use?
WMP Average 72 cpu. File/Properties doesn't show any audio or video codecs just a dash mark. Now it plays well in Nero but not in WMP!
Download FIlmerit and check to see if you have any registry or file problems related to the directshow filter system: http://paul.glagla.free.fr/filmerit_en.htm Then check DVD filters with Microsoft's program: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...AC-0AB6-4990-943D-627E6ADE9FCB&displaylang=en
I fumbled through Glagla site as best I could. Micrososft filter site indicates that while there are a variety of Mpeg encoders, adjusters etc, none of those present are OR should be set as preferred. While I did uninstall Pinnacle and used their regedit utility, most of the entries are for Pinnacle. There were 2 for MGI which I uninstalled with no change. How do I get rid of these useless Pinnacle entries andwould I then be able to install something that can be set as preferred? If there is nothing listed as preferred, what does WMP use for a codec?
I just finished the XPrepair/update thinking it would fix WMP but still no good. Plays OK with Nero but audio and video burps with WMP. Suggestions from the crowd?
Set a restore point (so you can easily backout the changes) Download either cyberlink Powerdvd or Windvd Trial. Install it. Does it work now? Rerun Filmerit and MS codec checker. What do they say?
Downloaded WinDVD but got error at installation. Error 1904.ModuleC:\Program Files|Intervideo\Common\Bin\SpeakerDMO.dll failed to register. H-Result -2147220473. Contact your support personnel. Would that be you?? Anyway, continued with the installation and downloaded real player as per windvd request which I had uninstalled in my earlier search and destroy attempts at solving the problem and... Whoa! All media players inoperative! Enough invitations to send Microsoft error reports that they would think I am stalking them! I went back with System Restore but now even Nero has a few bumps. Where do I go from here?
Went back one earlier restore point and Nero works OK again but not WMP. I just reinstalled Real Player and there is no audio.
Sounds as if you have a windows problem to me. Very difficult to diagnose long distance. Xp or Vista ? I would make sure you have no older version of the app. on your system, that you do the install as Adminstrator, and that no anti-virus is running. Further diagnosis, check for error messages in the event viewer (eventvwr.msc from the RUN box)_ If no help, get to google.com and search on error 1904 2147220473
