Am I the only person around here that has extreme trouble getting these burned DVD's to playback on a home DVD player? I spent all day driving to friend's houses to see if their players worked any better than mine. Some of them played longer than mine before screwing up, but none of them worked perfectly. I use DVD X Copy Gold, and thought it would be very cool to back-up all of my movies before the kids destroy them, but am very dissapointed that it isn't the pervect solution. Anybody have any ideas about what could be going on?

Try a different software and use nero 6 to burn.

Try DVD-Fab or DVD Shrink 2.3 as alternatives

tnpfd, are you applying paper labels to your backups? This could be a big problem in playback. Case in point, I know they cause problems but my player seems ok with them. I did 4 backups for my daughter and took them to her house on Thanksgiving. They played about 20-30 minutes then complete freeze-up. I played around with the player and cleaned the discs for a half hour, then remebered the label. I pulled off the label and cleaned the glue off with GOO Gone, they played all the way through. I think I will try the DVD Shrink and then Nero to burn, I didn't know I could burn DVD's on Nero 6 or I wouldn't have wasted $100 on DVD X Copy. "Live and Learn" I guess. Is it really going to take 90 minutes plus to do it with Shrink, then Nero?

If you copies freeze and skip then the most likley problem is the media that you are using.

Use something better and se if it helps (I'm sure it will)

Hi tnpfd, Total time to do backup depends on the speed of your equipment, and size of what you are backing up. To get best quality, most people just do movie only backup. If you want full disc backup with menu, trailers, all extras, it will take much longer. I have done movie only backups at 15min to rip and 15min to burn. But full disc backup average 1hr or more. Well..... I used the DVD Shrink Program, sent it to a folder in C: video_ts, put that folder and its contents into my compilation in Nero 6 on DVD-Video mode, went to burn, and got about 3 different warning sign stating that burn may no be successful, burned it anyway, and when i put it in home DVD player, got message "Check Disc" . I don't know what to do with this set-up, I am usin Sony DVD+R discs, and get better results from DVD X Copy when i use them as opposed to using some cheap DVD-R's I got at Comp USA. So I guess I am stumped...

tnpfd, when you open Nero, are the 2 folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS already there to the left of the window. They should be. Then just select all your saved files from shrink and drag them into (on top of) the Nero VIDEO_TS folder. If they go in right, the file icons get a little musical note next to them. Then burn. Shrink and Nero usually work well together. AUDIO_TS folder should be empty. Jerry

Hi Frank, I'm using 3.0b shrink and just upgraded my Nero 6 OEM to ultra. But the Express part we use with shrink is the same. I noticed the musical note icon because one time I accidentally dropped the files below the VIDEO_TS folder instead of inside. Would have been another coaster but is was on RW media. I tried Nero Recode with Anydvd last night to see how it worked. It worked but took forever to rip. I think a new version is coming out this week.

I have a similar problem. I also use shrink dvd and nero6 to burn. I encoded Rocky with Shrink DVD and followed directions from :http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/user_guides.htm to use Shrink DVD 3.0 Beta. I then used directions from the same web site to burn to DVD using NERO. This method did not work, so I tried using another method. http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/burning_dvd_with_nero.cfm

Again, without success. I have an XBOX it will not play in as well as a AIWA Stand Alone DVD-Player. It says unrecognizable disk each time. Any suggestions?

By the way, I am using MEMOREX DVD+RW with a LG 4040N DVD+RW Drive. Any help would be appreciated...tired of not having luck!!!_

Oh yeah, one other note, I just put the DVD in my PC that I wrote it with, and it plays...just not on the stand alones.

Would it be the DVD-R copared to the DVD+R?

stealth66, Most stand alone players are either -R or +R players. There is a player guide at www.dvdrhelp.com that lists players and media they will play. As far as the xbox goes, I don't have one so I can't help ypu there. All burner drives should be able to play their own discs without problems. Jerry

WELL!!!!!! The 321 support team finally got to me... 5 days later, they tell me that Finding Nemo is a problem movie and I have to use a TDF file to copy that. I did get a successful movie copied today though, I did Spiderman with no troubles, I learned that I have to disable my Norton to avoid interrupted burns.. Thanks for all your help guys I know you were trying your best from afar...
