    Hello,

Our main DVD player, a JVC unit which is about 3-4 years old, cannot for some reason play new release DVD's.

It can play old movies fine, and also movies that have been brought from Bali(That have no encryption)

I am wondering, is this DVD player having trouble playing these movies, because of new encryption on the discs?
    Or, is it something else?

Any advice or input would be appreciated, thanks.

I can't play some Dual Layered movies, maybe those are the ones you can't play.

Thanks, but I'm certain it can play DL discs.
I can notice the frozen frame/layer change during the movies that do work.
Plus, it says that they are DVD-9 discs on the covers of some.

    Yes........
A lot of people are having problems with the newer movies. Especially Disney and Sony movies. They are putting so much copy protection on them, that they are causing problems with the software dvd players use, to play the movies.

A friend had two Disney movies that wouldn't play, in his brand new Sony player. I made copies for him, and the copies played flawlessly. So, once the copy protection was removed, they played.

If people can't play them, they won't buy them. The studios are only hurting themselves!
    Good luck!

    Thanks,
I copied them, and then they did play without any hassles.
    Thanks again. :)
