I have 3 players. I burnt 2 different videos using an unknown media brand(from a friend). Video nbr 1 plays ok on all 3 players. Video nbr 2 plays on 2 of 3 players only. Response on player that won't play the dvd is "can not find title". Did a search, someone mentioned using high quality media. I tried Sony but got same results. Is media the main criteria or are there numerous reasons why this is happening
Setting the burn speed too high contributes to the problem. Reset the speed to 4x and try again with the Sony disks.
You changed to Sony discs and you still get some to work, some not in that 3rd player? Try this program http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm 1. In the drive selection pulldown, choose your drive you burn on 2. Put the disc in the drive, press IDENTIFY 3. Reply to this post, and let me know the make, model, and firmware it says your drive is. EX: Mine says D:Benq DVD DD DW 1640-[FW BSRB] also press the CLIPBOARD icon to copy the contents of the completed ID to your computers clipboard and paste it in the same reply. I can tell you to only burn discs at 8x maybe 4x if its an older burner/ older blank media. Also check the internet on your specific dvd player preferences. Maybe it likes +R or -R style discs. Maybe your player is so old its being picky with newer discs? I'm guessing now, but give more information and I'll try to help.
[bold]Is media the main criteria or are there numerous reasons why this is happening [/bold] Most likely a format issue. The mid codes from those 2 different backups will tell us.That no disc error is a compatability issue.Stand alone players can be picky when it comes to reading dvd Plus and Dash backups. You've got to find the right flavor-(plus/Dash)for all your drives and stick with it. Depending on what model of dvd-rw drive you got, some of them can booktype the plus format to dvd-rom.That usually fixes most compatability issues..
yes using top quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim burning between 4x and 8x max. will get you the best results and as said if your using the DVD plus R media booktype to DVD-ROM or use the DVD dash R media . I have more luck with the DVD dash R format myself
One of my standalones is pretty picky, for some reason the more expensive players are. I've found that with the good quality media, as has been mentioned here already, the dash r's work most of the time, but i've had really good luck booktyping the plus r formats to play in that particular player. My cheapy players play anything i feed them.
Thanks for all the info. I burned a new disc(noname) at 4x and still no luck. yes, this problem is with my expensive player(Sony), the cheapies play it just fine. I will engage deadrums idea when I find time( hey, now have to watch the nfl playoffs). Thanks again to all
