I bought a new DVD player so that it accepts all kinds of DVD's and types. However, the DVD's I backup will only play on that DVD player and not on any other one. Of course they play fine on it and my computer, but I can't bring it to watch at my friends house let's say. What can I do to alieveate this problem? Or can I???

    Hi LynsWil25
What brand of dvd's are you using? Are they the + or - format?
Burn speed can also be a factor on the other players. What speed are you burning at?
Players can be picky w/ media and burn speed.

To help increase compatability if your drive supports booktyping you can booktype +r discs to DVD-Rom.

I don't know what "book typing" is or how to do it. I am now burning at 4X or 2X so no skipping occurs. I use GENUINE Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Silver Top Blank Media.

Ok -R can't be booktyped to make the disc appear as a dvd-rom. Only +r media can be. Your drive would need to support booktyping too.
    Here's more info on booktyping:

So let's check the burner - what's the make, model and current firmare version? You may need a firmware update.
If you have Nero go to ToolKit>InfoTool. Pick you burner - in the drive tab there is a field that list's the firmware version.

What type of files are you burning? Movie backup, avi's etc.
