    i had that problem with my dvd rw drive as well, i got lucky i was able to find a firmware upgrade for it, and it's been working again like a charm, i would suggest trying a firmwae upgrade if you can find one for your drive.
    good luck

    i just do a search in google for the firmware under GWA-4080N as that's the model of the drive.

    thanks for the help but the fireware update did not help. when ever i put in a dvd or even a blank dvd it acts like it is not even there. i am so confused. i am thinking about just deleting every thing and reloading windows and just restarting the computer... any more do you have anymore ideas?

    thanks for the help though..

    @barback18, Welcome to AfterDawn.

    First try this: Uninstall your drive in the device manager, reboot.

    Good possibility your drive may be hooped. You can try cleaning the lens, or just replace the drive.
