I have transferred my home movies to DVD-R using pinnacle studio 8. I would like to make bit accurate copies for family members. (In other words I do not want them to be MPEG compressed again with generational loss), I have tried to use my DVD X copy software but it does not recognize the disk. Any suggestions on the best (and economical)way to copy these movies using my computer’s DVD burner would be appreciated
I have over 20 hours worth of home movies. Each tape has about 13 GB of data on it. Before it is compressed to MPEG it would be well over 200 GB of hard drive. When I burn the movies to DVD it takes many hours to write each disk. If I could just copy the disks I have made it would save lots of time.
I think that DVD x-copy uses the nero burning engine. But it will not copy the disk. I can try Roxio, but I don't need all the other features on it. I was hoping that there was a freeware fix somewhere for just DVD copying. Thanks for your advise.
You should be able to copy the discs in Windows Explorer with just a simple copy and paste and then use your app of choice to burn to DVD. That's the way I'd do it. Assuming they're already authored to DVD format (as opposed to just being MPEG files) you could also use either DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to rip to an ISO file and then burn with Decrypter. Shrink can be set to automatically open Decrypter and burn, but with Decrypter you have to do that manually. Shrink and Decrypter are both free. If they're not already authored to DVD files you can use Rejig or IfoEdit to author and then either burn with a program like Nero or RecordNow or open the DVD files with DVD Shrink and make an image and then burn with Decrypter. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a night. Whether it uses Nero's burning engine or not(I don't think it does), DVD X Copy is ONLY for dvd movie backup.
