Is it only possible to put 120 minutes of video on a 4.7 GB DVD? Even if the file is only 2GB? Is there a way to get around the length issue as long as the video is less then 4 GB? I am coping a movie from a video tape into my computer then I want to add menus etc. I have Power Director Pro and when I pull the video into PDP it says the movie is too big. Even though the file size is small. :-( HEEEEEEELLLLLLP! Please!
You can put over 9 hours of video on single DVD-R, it's just matter of the quality you want to get -- it all comes down to the "magic term" of bitrate: http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/bitrate.cfm
Thank you, thank you. I really only care to get Video Tape quality. I just want to use DVD media and my own menus etc. I wonder why the stupid Power Director tells me the video is too long. I made a video 2 hour 6 minutes long and the app would not take it. I went back and shaved off 7 minutes and it fit. The full file was never over 2 GB. in file size. :-( I am trying Ulead Video toolbox now to see if this file will work with it.
Windoze tends to have problems with files larger than 2GB, so splitting up the actual file into smaller chunks is probably the answer, not the length (as in time) of the file itself, but the size (as in megs) of the file.
Not to bug anyone and I hope I don't sound stupid but I wanted to mention a couple of other things. When I made the time shorter (Even though the file was still over 2 GB) It worked fine. And also I am using 2000 and NTFS so I shouldn't have a problem with files above 2GB? (At least that is what I read?)
Well, your program is probably the problem in here, can't say anything else as I don't have any experience with PDirPro. I would personally encode (if required) clips to DVD-compliant MPEG-2 using TMPGEnc or CCE SP and then author the disc using something like DVDIt PE, DVDMaestro or similiar.

TMPGEnc has a free, unrestricted trial version, available from our site. The authoring tool (DVDIt PE or some other) is the difficult one -- they're all commercial.
I want to make backups of my DVD projects. The video files are about 3.5 to just over 4 gigs in size. How do I burn these to a DVD? Will there be a file size issue since it is over 2 gig? I am using Nero as my burning software. thanks! 21stcdb
21stcdb, You have gone a bit off topic here with your question. Also, you are lacking in detail,to say the least. It looks as if you need an authoring software package like Spruce Up, or DVD Workshop. Please supply more details of your setup. HomerJ
