Im not sure whic is the best format to play back on a home dvd player. I am debating on returning my recorder which burns in -R for one that burns +R. What do you think and whats a good recorder that cost between $200-$300... Thanks

     Chris112 ... I purchased a Lite On DVR-5005 about a month and a half ago and I'm very happy with it ... It records DVD+R/RW , DVD-R/RW , VCD and SVCD ... it cost $241 including shipping ...

Thanks for the advice.. Where did you get the Lite-one for that price?

Also my question still stands as to which format is better to play in your average dvd player so that I can convert my home movies and other people besides myself can watch them..

    Thanks again!!!!

... Well Chris112, I've used both +R and -R in my recorder ... We have a half dozen players at my house and a couple have trouble with the -R and a couple others have trouble with the +R ... The newer ones will play either flawlessly if the disc is a good disc ... Ritek works really well ! I think that + or - R is a matter of preference (like women, blonde or brunette) The price is about the same if you shop for sales ... right now SuperMedia Store has Ricoh produced Riteks for $49 with a $3 coupon and a $10 mail in rebate making the final cost (shipping is free) $36 ...

... I purchased the Lite On LVW-5005 here:

...Good merchant ... I ordered it on a Sunday afterneen and received it on Wednesday ... really surprised me!!

I have found the + to read in more players. (Home/Auto/Portable.)

But as said above. All new ones play almost any format.
