Real new to DVD editing but I have put VHS tapes on DVD RAM disc to play on laptop. The laptop's DVD player does not recognize it. The new Panasonic DVD recorder uses RAM & -R discs and the Dell laptop is very new, high-end. What I am I missing here? Thanks

DVD-RAM wasn't made for movies. It has advantages for corporate data storage such as built in error detection/correction, but is used primarily for data storage. DVD-R is the most common format for movies. You'll need to check the specs for your burner. Dual format burners can record both DVD-R and DVD+R. Most new DVD players will read both formats. Older DVD players will only read DVD-R.
