If anyone could help with my Phillips 8801 DVD rom, they'd be doing me a great favour. Basically, the DVD doesn't recognise DVDs or CDs when they are inserted. Sure, the disc spins, but that's it. The other day, when I tried to burn something, one file out of about 100 managed to get across onto the disc.
Having read a lot of posts here, I worry that it's something quite serious. I'm guessing that downloading a new driver would be a good start, but does anyone know where to find one?
Any help would be appreciated greatly,
    Ben

To start, DVD Rom drives don't burn discs. They only play them.
If you actually have a burner, you can try this:
Go into your Device Manager, and find your drive. Right click on it, and choose "Uninstall". After it uninstalls, reboot, and let Windows detect new hardware, and install new a driver for you.
You don't have to look for a driver. Windows will install it for you.
You can also try a firmware update, if there is one.
    Good luck!

Computer may show it as a DVD Ram drive, or DVD-R/W.
