I've read other posts on this subject, but I'm afraid they are too technical for me to understand. My problem is that when I insert a DVD-RW disc into my DVDRW drive (NEC), Windows shows the drive as a CD drive and the disc as free space: 0 bytes; total size: 0 bytes. I can't copy anything onto the disc. This has happened quite suddenly; I've had no problems before. The drive still reads DVDs OK; and I can burn onto CD-RW discs just fine. I'd be grateful for any advice on resolving this problem.
Hi hawker What's the model of the NEC? If there is a firmware update may help. The drive showing as a CD-Rom when a disc is inserted is ok - windows does that for some reason. What program are you using to burn? Burn speed?
Hi Binkie Been away for a couple of days, and, on my return, Nero now seems entirely happy to burn onto blank DVD-RW discs. I don't pretend to understand why it's now back to normal, but just pleased it is. Thanks a lot for your interest.
