dvd+rw into standalone?

    i have an hp dvd+rw burner that i ripped out of my computer so i could put a sony multiformat in. my question is, can i put this extra burner in some kind of case, and use it as a standalone burner?

    Do you mean use it like a USB burner for your computer, or to make it like a stand alone DVD Recorder; one you can record off cable, etc?

    i mean like a stand alone dvd recorder. one i could hook to my tv like a vcr and record away on.

    Keep in mind those stand alone recorders have a CPU, and a motherboard, and several other computer components. The physical drive is just one part of it.

    Why not just put it back in your case, I have three in mine. Don't make it a stand alone, make it a backup burner.

    Good call Sophocles!

    I use my old HP 4x as a cd player in mine so that I can carry on burning with the other two.
