DVD-RW Problem

I bought some DVD-RW hoping I could burn MPGs to them to watch on my tv. However, when inserting the disc, nothing appears, as if no disc has been entered. DVD drive is a Pioneer DVR-106D and it says it supports DVD-RW. If I format the DVD-RW which I can only do on my DVD player, then the PC recognises a disc but it wont open as it says something about unsupported. When I go into nero it says the disc has like 4GB spare space but I cant write to it. Whats the problem here? Updated with the latest firmware

Obviously your DVD player does not support the mpg format.

But Ive tried my dads which is a Lite-On and it wont work on that either. When I use Nero, and try writing anything, it says Illegal Disc Error.
On the front of the DVD Drive it dats DVD+ReWriteable, does that mean only DVD+RW despite the fact the specs say it can write DVD-RW

    Anyone got any solution.
DVD Drive is DVD-RW Read and Write compatible, all newest firmware and drivers installed.
If I format the DVD-RW Using our DVD player then the disc shows up as a CD Drive but is classed as incompatible with windows. In Nero it will show 5mb used up and the rest free but you cannot write to it as it says illegal disc.
Inserting a blank disc unformatted in our DVD player, the disc does not show up in My Computer and nothing can be wrote to it.
Its as if Windows doesn't like DVD-RW, which I would be surprised with, £6 wasted!
