after burning with anydvd and clonedvd, when I play the movie it stops about half way through, and won't finish.Anyone have this problem?
dougah: is it possible that you can give us more infomation as its pretty sketchy with what you have provided. What operating system are you running? what versions of the software do you have? what is your burning agent? what are your pc stats? what media are you using? what speed are you burning at? IS the dma set to on? is your virus software on or off when burning? Are these files that you have converted or are they dvds that you are attempting to replicate? As you can see there is a lot that you havent mentioned so its very hard for people to read your mind and actually give you the response you need to fix this problem
thoses are all GOOD questions there andmerr dougah off hand the first thing that comes to mind is your using mid to low grade media ( please DONT say memorex) and your burn speed is probably to high. SO use good media as in Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim or stuff that codes out as Taiyo Yuden and try burning at 4x max. WITHOUT anyother programs running while your burning. you have the best program going so iam sure THATS not the problem
@ aabbccdd: its memorex , its memorex it has to be .The bane of the dvd backing up world......sorry i ranted a bit there
thats only partly true.Look at all those questions still to be answered if we are going to help dougah
I have a Dell 8400 with 512MB memory, Windows xp home, nec burner, and yes I used memorex media at 8x speed. These movies are backups, I don't know about the DMA. My virus program was running. it seems from the posts I have recieved that Memorex is BAD media and I guess thats where Ill start. thanks.
make sure your NEC has the lastest firmware update ,change your media as per my last post ,burn at 4x, the virse scan program shouldnt be a problem as long that you arent running a scan while burning. and you should be good to go , peace
Should I purchase 4x or 8x Discs? I was just looking at taiyo yuden discs but not sure which speed to get Thanks for the advice aabbccdd
BEST bet is to get a couple of each variety and do a rought trial to see which work for you. TY's are fine but maynot be where you are, could try ritek ridata discs, verbs etc but turf those memorex.Only 1% of the population and thats not you have any success with them see how you go and post your results . We are always here to help if you get stuck andmerr
dougah either or is fine which ever is the less expenisive ,heres a link to what i ordered this week http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-media-200.html theres is NO quality difference between the 4x or the 8x i would recomend to burn at 4x though
also if you want to get Taiyo Yuden store bought buy Fujifilm or Sony DVD+r 8x media thats "Made In Japan" theses will code out as Taiyo Yuden and sams club has Verbatim 100 packs for about 39.78
I would concur with andmer and aabbccdd in their analysis of the problem that you are having. Media issue and burn speed will cause the results that you are experiencing. With high quality you can burn faster than 4x. As a general guideline you should only burn up to 1/2 of the rated media speed. Example 8x media burn at 4x. 4x media burn at 2x. That being said, I never burn faster than 4x. Go with the media suggested by andmer and aabbccdd and burn at 4x and you will be producing great backups shortly. Cheers.
Hi there, I use DVD-R 4x Taiyo Yuden and burn them at x2.0 Why purchase and pay more for 8x media if I going to burn at x2.0 My 2 cents
I was very interested to read this thread as I also suffer with this problem of copied movies stopping half way through. I also use AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2, but in my case I use Verbatim DOUBLE LAYER discs recorded at 2.4x. The reason I use double layer discs is that I want an exact copy of the original DVD, with no loss of video quality due to compression, plus I want all the menus and extras. Most of the original DVD's are manufactured on double layered discs so a DL copy should present no problems. And indeed, CloneDVD allows me to select DL media which results in a 100% copy with no compression. The resultant copies I have made so far are indeed Top quality and indistiguishable from the origial, except for the stop halfway through. A bit of research on the internet reveals that the original movies have a "layer flag" within the video that notifies the DVD player to switch layers and where to carry on reading from. This can sometimes be seen as a slight pause or jerk when viewing the original. It also seems that most decryting software such as AnyDVD removes this flag as part of it's process. This makes sense when you are compressing video from a DL disc to a single layer disc as the flag is then redundant. However, when making a copy to a DL disc the layer flag is necessary, and it's abscence is what is causing the Movie to stop half way through because the player doesn't know where to read from next. The simple solution of course is to just grab your player remote and press the 'forward' button and the movie should continue, and this is exactly what happens. However, this is not good enough for me. I want to be able to watch a movie all the way through without having it freeze on me just at the good bit. I have contacted Slysoft about the problem and wondered if there was a way to retain the layer flag in it's original position, but they have ignored me. I fully completed their online help form but I am still in the trial period of the software so maybe they won't support me. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has noticed this freeze and has found a workaround or using other copying software that doesn't produce a stop on DL discs.
@cougar_ii Absolutely no reason. I burn at 4x so I want the 8x media. Personal preferance only. Cheers.
