Well first off you don"t need to convert it to AVI to edit it ...You can just use a native Mpeg editor to edit the Files on the DVD Like "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005"...It will let you edit the VOB files off of the DVD and save them as a mpeg-2 file with no quality Loss and it only takes minutes to render as Opposed to others that take hours and lower the quality......

Well You can also Edit "Mpeg-2" files in Adobe Premier and Mpeg-2 and Vob are the same format...The only thing stopping you From editing the VOB files directly in Premier is that it doesn"t support the Dolby AC3 audio that is Found on Most DVD"s...

So all you really have to do is Change the audio format in the VOB files to say "Mpeg-1 layer-2" audio and then you will be able to edit them in Premier without any problems and without the Quality Loss you will experience if you Convert the VOB to AVI.....

If you can get ahold of "Womble Mpeg2VCR" it can convert the Dolby AC3 audio to Mpeg-1 Layer-2 audio while Not touching the Video so in the end you will have a Mpeg-2 file that you can edit in premier and without any quality Loss and it will be a LOT Faster than encodeing to AVI first....

    Cheers

IF you really want to Go to AVI (I wouldn"t recomend it as it really isn"t needed) then you can use a Program Like "DVD2AVI" which will convert your VOB files into an AVI Video file and a Dolby AC3 audio file or a Wav file depending on the settings...after it has finnished encodeing you simply use a Simple Program called "AVI-Mux" that will Mux the AVI Video and the Audio file into a Working AVI file.....
