Hi All, I'm new to this section and have just installed a DVD Burner and wondered if someone could give me a tip or two about burning DVD's onto DVD on both formats. My burner is a dual type and is the LG 4040B. I have Nero 6 and have managed to create a copy of a single layer DVD. However this plays on the PC but not the stand alone player. I'm not sure what type of media my SA DVD player is supported , but It would be a help of someone could advice me. Also any help in creating a dual layer DVD would be of help. Many thanks, Marty...............
You don't mention what technique or software you used to rip the DVD. That would be helpful to know. I'd advise downloading DVD Shrink (free). You can use that to rip and compress any DVD down to DVDr size. If you'd like a little more speed, and perhaps a bit better quality, download DVD Decrypter (free)to rip with, then download DVD2One (inexpensive) to compress it. Then u can burn it using Nero, in DVD-Video mode. Just make sure you drag the ifo, bup, and vob files into the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero creates for u. You cannot just rip the files then burn them. That's prolly why u can't play yer dvd on yer standalone. You need to process the files into the standard form. DVD2One can do that for u. 2bups, 2ifo's, and the vobs. I use the DVD Decrypter/DVD2One method and in dozens of DVD's, I've not had one coaster due to compatibility or problems with the software.
With regard to compatibility, dvd-r is usually more compatible. This does depend upon the standalone player. A log is found at: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php You are going to have to wait on the dual layer dvd burning, just like everybody else. DVD+r is coming out soon(?) but will require special dual layer burners and discs. Your LG is a dual in the sense of -r/+r, not dual layer
Well you should make sure that you use good media, as standalones seem to preffer some nice blanks like Ritek,TDK or Maxell (I never had problems with those). Also make sure you are burning a DVD-Video right, here's a guide I've wrote for that: http://users.auth.gr/~ichatzim/nero.htm
Hi All, Thanks for the info. I have taken your advice and download the DVD Shrink and used this to rip a DVD. I have then used the Nero 6 to add these files to DVD+R disc. All the files were added to the correct Video directory, and indeed the film plays on the PC fine. But again there is an issue with the stand along player. Having checked the spec of this player I find it will play both formats. The media I'm using is the Packard Bell discs. I did notice there is a post saying that Nero 6 has given some others porbelms with there SA players. Any info would help.. Many thanks for the replies. Martin.....
Have you tried CloneDVD, it compresses your DVD, then lets you write to DVD or make ISO files etc. Excellent software which has burnt compatable DVD-R's time and time again for me. I use either Ritek G04 or Datawrite v2. PS, you will need AnyDVD to decrypt the DVD if you wanna use CloneDVD. Good luck
Hi Koola, Thanks for the tips. I do have Clove DVD, but i'm not sure how I can use this with the rip form shrink. I have tried to copy direct from Clone but the DVD's will not copy.. Martin..
If you have used DVD Shrink, you should have the DVD files in a VIDEO_TS folder on your HD. To write using CloneDVD, you need to click on the [bold]Write Exsisting Data[/bold], then when the next slide come up, click on the [bold]DVD Movie Files[/bold] button and select your VIDEO_TS folder containing you DVD video files. Now put in a DVD-R a burn.
If you have AnyDVD together with CloneDVD as koola said before, you have the best DVD copying tool. That's all that you will need and also freeware DVD Shrink in case that something goes wrong. (and DVD Decrypter of course). If you have these you don't need anything else as if you have to use DVD Shrink, CloneDVD will handle the writing.
Hi afonic, I'm not sure I have the correct version of Clone DVD. I Have the trail ait seems to only have three functions read image burn image and play dvd. It would be a help if you could let me know how to combine the programs to create a DVD. Martin.
Well see my guide at http://users.auth.gr/~ichatzim/clonedvd.htm See the pictures, your's should be the same. You just have to have AnyDVD enabled, it will unlock the DVD, once you insert it at the drive, and then CloneDVD works fine.
Hi afonic, Ha.. I had a different version of CloneDVD. I have just downloaded the elby version and will give this a go.. Thanks, Martin..
Still no luck. I have installed Clone DVD and used the AnyDVD to remove the protection. The copy plays fine on the PC but not on the stand alone. I have now three movies which work on the PC and not the SA. My Stand alone player is Panasonic SV36 and shows it will play both the +/- formats. All the files a copied to the correct dir on the disc and I'm not sure if it's the media it's self. Any ideas?.. Martin.
Try recordnow.....it may sort your problem.... goto http://www.chrismccann.co.uk for trial and guide.....
I would try different media Marty91, don't get cheap media as this does not always play on all SA. Use Ritek G03 or G04 discs which should be compatable with your SA
Hi All, I must thank eveybody here who has responded to this thread. I now have completed a successful burn which plays on the the SA player. I used the Clone DVD to burn the files created by Shrink, and this was all placed onto a DVD-R disc (Arita), which my SA seems to like although the spec shows both formats can be used. Once again THANKS ALL!!! Marty91
