Hey gang, here is my problem. I've been trying to rip LOST Season 1 to my iPod with no success. I've tried Cucusoft's program, I've tried Videora, no luck. Here are the steps I take:

    1) Rip the DVD to my harddrive into a folder that I created using DVD Decrypter.

    2) Run Cucusoft and point it to the folder I ripped the DVD to.

    3) I look at the chapters that get loaded up, click on the play button to preview them, then hit convert or whatever the button is.

First of all, the chapter listing I get when I try these steps in Cucusoft's software is completely different than when I open up VOB files in Videora. For instance, I'll have a Chapter 3, let's say, in Cucusoft, and I cannot find the corresponding VOB file with that name in Videora. Is the Cucusoft software actually reading the PGC's and all that and then giving me the real titles?

In either case, my results from doing it in Cucusoft result in a full episode with the audio from something else (like the director's commentary track). My results in Videora are similar, but worse. I'll get only part of an episode (I think the LOST DVD has the episodes split into different VOBs... like the first half of an episode will be in VTS_02_1 and the second part of that same episode will be in VTS_05_1 for instance. This makes using Videora impossible, because I can't get a full episode out of a VOB. The other thing that happens when I use Videora is that I will get audio from something completely different. (I got one episode that gave me a crashing waves sound - which I think is from the chapter menu).

I'm trying to encode these files in H.264. I can't figure out how to do it properly in the Cucusoft program, but it's a preset in Videora. I'm at a loss here. Someone please help!

Thanks again, hopefully someone has experienced this before and can give me a hand.

Cucusoft supports ripping DVD by three modes:
    1) Load the whole DVD: Click "Open DVD" button, choose the DVD drive, and then click "OK". This mode will list all DVD titles, such as Title01_01, Title02-01. You can rip any title to a iPod video file.
    2) Load VOB file: Click "File -> Open VOB". You can rip every vob file to a iPod video file.
    3) Open IFO file: an ifo file = a title.
PQ DVD to iPod video converter is better than cucusoft in ripping DVD chapters, rip any segments you like.

Thanks for the help. I haven't tried PQ yet because from what I read you had to manually go in and move a marker from the start and end part of what you were ripping and that sounded like it was very inefficient compared to the other two. As far as Cucusoft's software being able to rip different things, yes, as far as IFO, VOB, etc, but I can't figure out how to rip it to H.264 format. That and like I said, my audio issues.

PQDVD is far from inefficient. It's just a bleedin marker, it takes less than a second to do, and it is ideal if you were dealing with, for instance a TV Rip whereby you may want to crop out the advertisments etc..

Like I said, I've never used it. It just seemed hokey to me that you have to mark where you're ripping as opposed to loading up IFO's or VOB files. Besides, it's called PQ DVD, why would you use it to do TV Rips? In either case, I've managed to sort of get Cucusoft's software to work. My problem now is still trying to find all the episodes (I think they're spanned across multiple VOBs), and it looks a little stretched as well. How would I convert it to H.264 and the right resolution (320x240?). Thanks!

Sorry, I have a Media Center PC, so I record the shows on my PC (dvr-ms) and then run them through the PQDVD to mp4 format.

You don't actually need to change the marker it if you want to rip the whole video, it is just an option.. & Surely it's easier to pop the DVD in and press record than it is to Decrypt the DVD then transcode it..

Not trying to argue mate, just trying to make comparisons; meybe someone will learn from it.

Glad you sorted the cucusoft problem.

Thanks Lethal. I didn't take it as argumentative, hope you understood I didn't mean that as well. :) I've actually been using a combination of programs now, and I think they work out best. It's not exactly for the novice I guess, and no sake of ease with drag and drop because of that. In either case, BeSweet/BeLight, Yamb, and MeGUI. Also, I posted a new thread about Nero's latest update - supporting AVC Profiles now, and I tried that with a WMV file - worked like a charm! I don't know about Nero 6, as I upgraded to 7. But I can tell you that it worked perfectly. H.264 encoding with AAC audio. The only thing I haven't been able to figure out on Nero is if you can manually adjust the settings (160kps audio for instance.) They have "Quality Settings" but it's a little vague. Cheers!
