Hello, Im trying to get DVD clips i have from my camcorder (holds small dvd) and convert them into a mpeg format so i can mess around with them in Windows Movie Maker. I gave "yasa" dvd to mpeg a try but the result was really bad. The dvd clip itself is of brilliant quailty, its only 24 mins long and its 1.4 gig ! If any one can let me know the best thing to use to convert this it would be a great help.
Can we get a little more love in this forum? I too would like to convert DVD to MPEG. I'm not terribly picky about the quality of the movie. If you watch your movie on your 19" Desktop screen it doesn't look much different regardless of whether you are watching a DVD or MPEG (assuming you get a good quality ripper). I have a copy of Kung Fu Hustle on MPEG and it looks just dandy. I can put 4 or 5 MPEG movies on a DVD to save storage space. Plus I can keep the movies on my hard drive to watch later. MPEG's can be so handy to have around, pity nobody but me uses them.
I too have a small TV and I can watch to mpeg (even MPEG-1, that it VCD movies, without shaking of disgust). Once you convert a movie --> MPEG-1 (352x240/288 NTSC/PAL) 1' of movie = 10 MB, and if you author a DVD with MPEG-1 movies (usuing DVD Lab) you can fir 450' on a DVD5 (which is about 4500 MB).
Hi. The program you need is VOB2MPG http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=VOB2MPG It will take your VOBset and output an mpeg of exactly the same quality.
Just downloaded and attemped a conversion with VOB2MPG. It only converted one VOB file. No user options that I can find, no manuals, useless software for me at this point. At least I got MS Dot Network on my computer now.
If all your clips were from the same VOBset VOB2MPG would have generated one mpeg from the whole lot. As it sounds like they aren't from the same VOBset I'd suggest running them one at a time through VOB2MPG and getting your mpegs that way. As you're going to be messing around with them in Movie Maker, you'll have the option of importing as many or as few as you like and outputting a single file that way. Except then the single file will be AVI of course as that's what Windows Movie Maker outputs.
Same VOB set?? Dude, I've used (nay tried) all these softwares: DVD Ripper, Yasa, APlus, EZ DVD Rip, Nero, Plato DVD to Divx, DVD to MPG, X-Video Converter. And that's not even all of them, that's SOME of the conversion products I've tried. ALL of these softwares were simple and easy to use. Just point in the direction where all the DVD Files are and it does the rest. If this VOB Mpeg can't make their software easy to use like the above listed softwares I'm not wasting my time.
I'm in a similar boat... but I need to convert my small dvd's into some format usable by windows moviemaker. So far none of the ones you mentioned have actually worked, so I must be doing something wrong. Most recently I tried ConvertXtoDvd and received error messages that my file could not be converted. Help?
