    Hi

I authored a dvd video. It was about 8gb in data so I had to use a double layer media, I used Verbatim DVD+R Double Layer. The burn went fine and it plays perfectly on pc. However, when I put it in my stand alone dvd player some of the left side of the screen has been cut off, about 10 - 15 %. There is no border on the right side of the screen as if it had shifted over, just the left side is cut off as if the image is too big for the tv. Anyone know why? I have only seen this on one stand alone dvd player so far, will try others.

Also, the verbatims I have say certified up to 2.4x and this is the speed I burned at. However, after checking the disc nero autmatically set the burn speed to 4x and I had to manually change it back down to 2.4x, why? Would I be able to burn at 4x with these discs?

Well the left side cut off sounds odd. Usually you will lose about 10-15% of what you see on your monitor due to TV's overscanning, but it should be around the whole perimeter. If you note most authoring apps have lines/boxes that denote the 'Safe Area'.
