(How do i check if it is?) my pc is 3-4 yrs old. its an acer RC500. any help will gladly be appreciated. also, any other suggested dvd writers are welcome. cheers!
To check your PC specs, download and run this.. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php You may have to do a little googling of your mobo model number to find out specifics though. As for those burners, I don't reccomend any of them that highly. The best brand make there is BenQ, but I have not heard of the model number, so can't comment. Check out this for an idea... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/485860 Get back to me.
hey Ripper thanks for ur reply.. at work at the moment so will check up my pc later on and probably get back to u tomoro... so then is LG a dodgey make then? jus askin cause most of the pc shops in my area stock only the LG brands listed in my previous post! ive heard tat pioneers are the best cause they hav the best lasers as well as laser life span, is this true? with regards to the benQ w1800, on a scale of 1 - 10 how wud u rate it, mayb not this particular model, but the brand in general?
Not all LG drives are good, no. Pioneer are very good drives, particularly the 111D, however the don't booktype +r without patched firmware to make them do so. (I will explain more about that if you'd like). BenQ = 10 for the most part, to give you an idea. There are always online shops such as NewEgg to buy from. Or, if you're in the UK, Misco.
ok i gues no LG writers for me then...LOL with the book typing option...by patchin the drive will tat void any warranty on the drive?
Yes it will. However, if you do it right, you will have no need for a waranty as the drive will function just as well, if not better, than before.
is there any other good brand dvd writer tat does not require flashing of the drive to make it compatible wit book typing?
