I was using a 4x dvd +r drive, using dvd xcopy platinum.
Back-ups played on both of my home dvd players. I upgraded burner to 8x Plextor. DVD Xcopy Platinum would no longer work, back-ups played on neither player. Tech support said Xcopy wasn't able to do over 4x. So, I ripped with DVD Xcopy Platinum to a folder I made, then minimized Xcopy because closing Xcopy would delete movie files in folder, then I would open the folder I made showing the movie files, then simply drag both audio and video files to Roxio Drag to Disk and copy. The outcome was better sound and better video quality, but now back-ups play on one player but not the other. Is this due to new plextor burner or software (Roxio Drag to Disk)?

It's due to Xcopy being rather poopy software. Roxio isn't the greatest either and is known to conflict with other burning apps.

I'd highly suggest giving DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter a try. When used together they will do everything Xcopy does only better and with more flexibility.

I've the same burner you have and Decrypter and Shrink do a fine job burning at 8X with quality media such as Ritek G04.

    Hello,
I used DVD XCopy when I first started backing up my movies and none of them would play in my Toshiba DVD player. I started using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter in .ISO mode and have not had a single movie not play. Not to mention the picture quality is much better in my opinion anyway......
