brand new to this forum and i've just recently bought a tdk 880n. when using 321 studio's dvd xpress to burn dvds, the write speed is great. it burns a dvd in about 11 minutes. the read speed however, is not that fast. is there a setting on the drive that i can adjust or is it just dvd xpress? does anyone know how to change this? sorry if i'm breaking any forum rules.
Is it 321 studios DVD Xcopy Xpress? 321 studios doesnt have a DVD xpress or maybe your speaking of a diffterent manufacturer. Anyhow, most drives are locked to rip at 2x, meaning that it takes time to copy a movie to the HDD. I suggest that you do reasearch to find appropriate firmware that will allow your burner to rip faster. Do a google search for your drive and Im sure you'll find something that'll lead u to some options. I have an NEC 2500a and I've flashed with the following 1.07 firmware from Herrie and it now burns Dual Layered disk and it rips from 5x-8x, burns most 4x disk at 8x. I use Ridata G04 -R media. Havent tried the DL disk yet, but Im anxious. Good Luck. [bold]I found a link that may prove useful, but do carefull study, a bad firmware flash can ruin your drive.[/bold] http://forum.firmware-flash.com/viewtopic.php?t=25926
that looks like a post for double-sided dvds? so there's no way to actually unlock the rip speed without firmware? why would tdk post that their reader can read up to 8x then? seems like false advertisement to me if they have the settings locked.

also, the firmwares seem to only upgrade the write speed? i need something that will affect the read speed. brand new burner and it burns at 2 hours? this sucks
hey flip, just read your previous post. sorry. is there any way to move this post? my sys specs are pentium 4 processor 2.02ghz 480 mb ram running on winxp 321 studio's dvd xpress w/ dvd43 my system should be okay right?
No, not much ya can do. A MOD may move it. But don't post this in the right forum, just wait and see if they'll move it. Anyhow, how long is the process start to finish?
Don't know if this will matter, but have you checked if your ide settings are set to DMA, and have you ever updated your aspi layer?
checked the DMA. the primary and secondary is set at DMA not PIO. no idea about the apsi. fill me in?
As for aspi if you want a step by step with pictures have a visit to http://www.hazza.dsl.pipex.com/faq.htm#ASPI
