Hey all, I tried searching the forums for the answer to my question but either i am using the wrong search terms or its just not there. Im guessing I am searching wrong. Anyway here is my question... I once used RipIt4Me with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. I was always able to back up my collection. Now that RipIt4Me is gone I have switched to DVDFab. It seems to work most of the time but all too often I get a movie that will not play correctly. I watch these movies using my xbox as the dvd player for my tv. I will sometimes get messages "cant read media" or something like that. Other times it will play so far through the movie then it will start freezing up and then give me the "attempting to read media" message. I always use Sony DVD+R discs and a Sony burner. My recent backup that failed was Eden Lake. It would play teh previews then get to the menu. Once i hit play for the movie to start, the error would pop up. On my panasonic dvd player/burner the movie woudl just stop playing when i hit selected "play" from the main menu of the disc. I just backed up Friday the 13th (the original one) and it played fine. SO I am guessing the problem with Eden Lake (and others that had this problem) is a security issue. And yes I do have the lates version. Seems to me that DVDFab doesnt update all that often. I was use to how often RipIt4Me updated. God i miss that program! I have been surfing these forums today and i am noticing the mention of AnyDVD now. My question is, what the general concensus as to which is better and more reliable at removing the security - DVDFab or AnyDVD? Thank you in advance.
Have you ran the files dvdfab processed with fixvts? Dvdfab doesn't give the cleanest rips and needs fixvts to 'tweak' the results. Then process the results thru either vob blanker, dvd shrink, or dvd rebuilder to compress your files down to dvd-5 size. As of right now, the top 2 programs to rip movies are anydvd and dvdfab, with a slight nod going to anydvd for its cleaner rips.
I still use RipIt4Me (It still works 7 or 8 out of 10 of my new movies), just because it runs FixVTS and start Shrink (the version burns with ImgBurn) after ripping. When RipIt4Me has a trouble with new release, I use DVDFab, just because it is free. I tried AnyDVD before, though it couldn’t beat the DVDFab’s price for me. When new movies with new copy protection come out, sooner or later both AnyDVD and DVDFab release updated version to take care the issue. If I am patient enough and use FixVTS (or VOB Blanker) after ripping, DVDFab does the job for me. Most likely I stick with this way until I decide to change to BD. I know this is not “General Consensus” though… And I think your issue with Xbox is the burning quality than the ripping quality. XBOX may like particular media than the other, and so as your burner.
