OK... here I go again... I've downloaded MainConcept MPEG encoder (as suggested) and tried to encode some MPEG-2's and when I import them to DVDLab Pro, it tells me this problem about GOPs. Any idea why? I guess I'm not doing something well with Mainconcept encoder it seems to me
Are you selecting the correct template? There's an option on the Advanced (or Details) button to close GOP's, use it. It just makes it more difficult for DVDLab to assign chapter points, if the GOP is left open. It has no bearing on encoding quality.
Jim, thnx again... Where exactly you mean it's that button? In MainConcept? I choose MPEG-2 in MainConcept....
That's the problem. The mpeg-2 template allows you to manually adjust parameters, which can result in a non-standard mpeg...not quite DVD spec. Select the DVD template instead, or click Details, Advanced, and set the Closed GOP Interval the same as your I frame setting (18 for NTSC, 15 for PAL). You can also get better quality, without increasing time, by setting Search Range to 15, and Search Method to 11. (You can go higher, but it seems to have little, if any, effect, and just adds to encoding time).
Oh... I had no idea at all about that GOP interval... MainConcept by default uses 12 I think... What does search range and method do? Thanks again a lot as usual
Guys, I've installed Canopus Procoder 2.0, but after encoding a movie and importing it to DVDLab Pro I get the very same error message as shown in post one. Any idea how can I set it like mentioned for Mainconcept? Thanks a lot
Ignore it, and compile anyhow. I usually turn off the warnings in project properties. I KNOW I encoded my video the way I wanted it
